Since 2005, Epiphany Education Center has been dedicated to raising the level of childhood literacy in Detroit. Epiphany Education Center provides academic intervention strategies to elementary and middle school students who are at-risk, have disabilities and/or I.E.P.’s, victims of trauma, below grade level readers and/or have been retained or in jeopardy of being retained. Our programs include One-to-One tutoring, Book Clubs, Summer Camp, Group tutoring and more.
Mission & Vision
Epiphany’s mission is to increase elementary and middle school student’s academic proficiency in math & reading, promote self-confidence, encourage community activism and develop 21st Century competencies.
Epiphany’s vision is rooted in the belief of a fully literate society for all, regardless of race, class or socioeconomic status. All of Epiphany’s programs including tutoring, book clubs and summer camp, function to support, promote and maintain the availability & accessibility of literacy services and materials in high poverty areas.
The Center aligns itself with Samaritan Center’s vision and core values of dignity, respect, excellence and self-worth. Both Epiphany and Samaritan Centers are participants in the rebuilding of Detroit’s East Side.

Acceptance to the program is based on a personal conference between parents, the student and Epiphany Education Center Staff to ensure an appropriate individualized program.

We need people like you—our volunteers donate just 2 to 4 hours per week. Tutoring sessions are held Monday thru Thursday, for one hour, twice a week, during the after school hours of 3pm to 6pm. Primary assistance in elementary/middle school math and reading.
Volunteers work in a friendly, supportive environment and training is provided. Many incentives are offered to volunteers including mileage reimbursement.
